ERGONOMICS AND AESTHETICS IN THE DESIGN OF APART-HOTELS: CREATING AN ADAPTIVE HABITAT FOR INTERNALLY DISPLACED PERSONS DURING A FULL-SCALE INVASION

Abstract

The article presents a contemporary aparthotel model that merges the characteristics of a traditional hotel with those of a fully equipped apartment. Purpose. The aim of the article is to identify and substantiate the key ergonomic and aesthetic principles for designing apart-hotels oriented toward the needs of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the context of a large-scale military conflict. The study involves analyzing current scientific approaches to temporary housing design, determining specific requirements of various categories of displaced persons, and formulating recommendations that take into account both economic and psychological factors. Methodology. The research is based on an interdisciplinary approach, combining methods of scientific literature analysis in architecture, design, and psychology. It utilizes publications from professional journals, reports by international organizations, and empirical research findings on how color and spatial solutions affect psychological well-being in crisis situations. The structural-comparative analysis method was employed to verify the validity of the concepts by examining planning solutions in various types of temporary housing. Results. The article demonstrates that a careful blend of ergonomic factors (e.g., transformable furniture, modular partitions, efficient zoning) and aesthetic elements (e.g., neutral color palettes, pleasant textures) enhances the psychological comfort of displaced persons and optimizes space utilization. The authors propose tools that enable architects and designers to quickly adapt aparthotels for different groups of residents, including families with children and people with special needs. Scientific novelty. The study’s novelty lies in its interdisciplinary approach to apart-hotel design, which simultaneously addresses economic feasibility, the physical and psychological needs of occupants, and safety requirements during emergencies. Additionally, the article discusses the potential for continued use of such hotels after the conflict, broadening prospects for both commercial and social applications of the space. Practical relevance. The research findings can serve as a basis for developing regulations and design solutions when renovating or constructing aparthotels. The proposed approaches enable rapid reconfiguration of existing buildings or the creation of new facilities that incorporate principles of adaptability, accessibility, and psychological support. This is particularly crucial for local authorities, volunteer organizations, and private investors aiming to provide a high-quality, safe environment for displaced persons.
