FEATURES OF THE ARCHITECTURAL AND ARTISTIC DESIGN OF A PUBLIC BUILDING ON SICHOVYKH STRILTSIV STREET, NO. 5 IN THE CITY OF DNIPRO

Abstract

The purpose of the article is to determine the features of the history of existence and architectural and artistic design of the architectural monument of local importance “Public Building”, guardhouse № 3, on Sichovykh striltsiv Street, № 5 in the city of Dnipro. The research methodology is based on the study and analysis of historical data about the building, the analysis of its architectural and artistic design in the context of the architectural, urban and artistic development of the Dnipro development. The scientific novelty is that this study is the first comprehensive study of this building in the context of studying the history of its existence and analyzing the architectural and artistic design of its facades and interiors. The practical relevance lies in the fact that the results of the study, namely, the identified features of the history of existence and architectural and artistic design of the building under study, can be used to compile accounting documentation for the monument, in the process of making design decisions regarding its restoration and adaptation, to popularize the cultural heritage of the Dnieper, etc. The architectural and artistic solution of the main facade is maintained in the context of the order’s “classicizing” architectural and artistic imagery, however, it is quite contradictory in terms of eclecticism. The facade is plastered and decorated with carefully executed stucco decorative elements of architectural and artistic decoration, which are addressed to the motifs of the order style, however, its general frontal composition is significantly transformed compared to the prototypes of historical order architecture. The basis of the frontal composition of the main facade is the central-axial centripetal compositional scheme traditional for order styles with an accentuation of the center by a portico. The facade has eleven axes of openings, the compositional center of the facade at the level of the second floor is highlighted by a pilaster portico, raised above the side parts. But, contrary to the canons of order architecture, the side parts of the three-part frontal composition are not equal – the left side part has four axes of openings, and the right – three axes of openings.
