Abstract

This  paper  deals  with  genre  and  structural  characteristics  of  different institutional discourse types of complaints in modern English communication in terms of speech act theory because understanding a particular type and genre of discourse  in  business  communication  greatly  contributes  to  establishing contacts  and  resolving  many  controversial  issues  at  large.  Our  interest  to studying a complaint as a specific speech act is attributable to the  fact that a complaint  combines  not  only  its  unique  features,  but  also  the  ones  of  other close-related speech acts, namely: informing, requesting, demanding, blaming, etc. depending on the pragmatic purpose.
