MODERN DESIGN APPROACHES TO THE INTERIOR DESIGN OF REHABILITATION CENTERS FOR VICTIMS OF MILITARY CONFLICTS: INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE AND UKRAINIAN REALITIES

Abstract

Purpose. Purpose of the work is to systematize contemporary design principles for shaping the interiors of rehabilitation centers for victims of military conflicts based on international experience, as well as to identify the possibilities for their adaptation to Ukrainian sociocultural conditions through the analysis of current domestic and international research in this field. The ultimate goal is to strengthen the role of design as a humanitarian tool in the rehabilitation process of war victims and to contribute to the development of a new type of socially significant spaces in Ukraine. Methodology. The research is based on a multidisciplinary approach that combines methods of researching and analyzing contemporary design practices in both domestic and international rehabilitation center projects, design modeling, comparative cultural studies, as well as synthesis and generalization of theoretical developments from regulatory and scientific frameworks in the field of rehabilitation design. Results. The study examines contemporary design approaches to shaping the interiors of rehabilitation centers for victims of military conflicts, taking into account international experience and current challenges within the Ukrainian context. Emphasis is placed on a multidisciplinary strategy for creating therapeutic environments that promote physical, psychological, and social recovery. The study analyzes examples of implemented facilities in countries with established practices in organizing safe, inclusive, and supportive environments for trauma survivors. Based on the findings, recommendations are proposed for integrating these approaches into Ukrainian rehabilitation facility projects, adapted to the sociocultural characteristics and realities of postwar recovery. Scientific novelty. For the first time, this work provides a comprehensive characterization of the interior environment of rehabilitation centers for victims of military conflicts in Ukraine through the lens of integrated multidisciplinary analysis. The author develops an original systematization of humanitarian design principles, viewed as a crucial spatial tool supporting the recovery process. Key design requirements for interiors are outlined, ensuring psychological comfort, supporting social adaptation, and preserving human dignity, thus contributing to a new understanding of the role of design in the post-war reconstruction of society. Practical relevance of the results lies in their applicability to the development and improvement of both standard and custom interior design projects for rehabilitation centers, the creation of national guidelines for the design of healthcare and social spaces for victims of military conflicts, the educational process in interior design programs at higher education institutions, and further scientific research in the field of design.
