INNOVATIVE APPROACHES TO LANDSCAPING ROADS AND ROADSIDE AREAS

Abstract

Purpose. The research is aimed at finding the most promising approaches and methods in the greening of roads and roadside areas to improve the environmental condition of cities in the face of growing anthropogenic pressure. Methodology. Cognitive, evaluative and diagnostic methods of analysis are used in the article. Results. Approaches to landscaping roads and roadside areas in the urban environment are analysed and evaluated. The process of realising a balance between the life of humans, other living beings, plants and nature in general during the arrangement of the urban environment is investigated. The author also considers the impact of certain changes caused by anthropogenic pressure on the functioning of the entire ecosystem, analyses its shortcomings, indicates how to reduce the negative impact and which greening methods are best used to obtain a positive effect. Attention is focused on expanding the use of approaches in the arrangement of such objects of the urban environment as overpasses, traffic circles and car parks, city streets, etc. It has been established that landscaping of roads and roadside areas is a comprehensive approach from the economic, architectural, aesthetic, decorative and engineering points of view. The need to master innovative landscaping methods for further ergonomic design of cities has been identified. Scientific novelty. The role of greenery in urban planning is inexhaustible. After all, green spaces have not only aesthetic and decorative benefits, but also functional ones. An integrated approach to landscaping roads and roadside areas improves the environmental condition of the city, increases safety in these areas, as well as the level of emotional and aesthetic satisfaction of residents; a single artistic image is created that allows for a holistic picture of the urban environment. Practical relevance. The identified patterns and acquired knowledge can be applied in the practice of landscape design in the arrangement or improvement of both urbanised objects of the environment, with the aim of greening the space.
