ON THE ROLE OF DRAFTING IN THE SYSTEM OF MODERN VISUALIZATION TOOLS

Abstract

Purpose. The aim of the study is to identify the key formative, communicative, and visual-imagery properties of drafting in the context of analyzing modern formmaking tools, as well as to assess its effectiveness when combined with digital modeling tools. Methodology. The study employs methods of searching and analyzing information sources within the outlined problem area; a historical approach to identify patterns in the development of design graphics; analysis of creative projects and portfolios of renowned artists, architects, and designers; as well as methods of structural-system analysis and generalization of research findings. Results. The study reveals the role of drafting as a primary means of professional communication – serving as a critical link between the designer and executor; a tool for synthesizing design activities at key stages; and an effective form of presenting the properties of the depicted object. It highlights the evolution of drafting methods and rules, which directly influenced the formation of design culture, aesthetic interpretation, and harmonization of man-made forms, as well as the further development of geometric modeling. The research evaluates the effectiveness of synthesizing automated drafting with digital design, image processing, and 3D modeling tools to expand the possibilities of modeling and visualization. Scientific novelty. The study provides a comprehensive characterization of the role of drafting in modern form-making practices for the first time, detailing traditional and innovative ways of its rational integration with other types of design modeling. Practical relevance. The findings can be applied in design practice, applied geometry, and the educational process of training specialists in artistic and creative fields, as well as in research within art studies, cultural studies, architecture, and design.
