Abstract

The biography and creative pursuits of the People’s Artist of Ukraine Yulia Skakandi, the iconic graphic works of the artist are studied in order to reveal the characteristic features of creativity formed as a result of his pursuits. The main facts from the life of the graphic designer and personality are given, which had a special impact on his artistic worldview. The main styles and techniques used by People’s Artist of Ukraine Yuliy Skakandi are considered. The philosophical position of the artist, his attitude to art and the creative artist are highlighted, artistic means and technological features are analyzed, as well as individual works of the artist. His most vivid iconic works are a series of color engravings depicting the life of Ukrainian Hutsuls, as well as color etchings from the historical series “People’s Avengers”, a series of etchings “Dreams to Meet” and “Ways of War”. The main creative achievements of Yuliy Skakandi are: the first prize of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine at the exhibition “Youth of the Country”; International Biennale in Italy – first prize (graphics), 1993; first prize (painting), 1995; first prize (watercolor), 2015. The artist has been a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine since 1997, a member of the Union of Designers of Ukraine since 2007, People’s Artist of Ukraine since 2018. He is a professor of the Department of Design at the State University of Infrastructure and Technologies (Kyiv). Yuliy Skakandi is a sincere patriot and has been in love with the vast lands of Transcarpathia since childhood, despite his travels abroad and the study of other cultures, he never forgets his roots. On the contrary, he believes that every artist should travel for the sake of aesthetic enrichment, and such a life helps to better appreciate the cultural treasures of one’s homeland. Purpose. To study the biography and creative pursuits of the People’s Artist of Ukraine, Yuliy Skakandi, to analyze the iconic graphic works of the artist in order to reveal the characteristic features of creativity formed as a result of his pursuits. Methodology. The article uses traditional scientific methods of historical anal ysis, comparative analysis, the method of system-structural analysis. Results. The artistic pursuits of Yuliy Skakandi were studied, the main features of his own style were revealed. Scientific novelty. For the first time, the creative searches of Professor Yuliy Skakandi are systematically investigated in order to identify the characteristic features of his work. A general review of his artistic achievements is conducted. Practical significance. This material can be used in the tour and educational process in the training of graphic designers, art historians, painters.
