NATIONAL SEMANTIC FEATURES OF THE “NEIGHBOR” CHARACTER IN THE JAPANESE FOLKTALES

The article analyses the “neighbor” character in the Japanese folktales. It is emphasized on the frequency of the existence of fairytale texts with a dominant image of the “neighbor” character belonging to the category of “evil-creators” characters. The feature of greed is empathized as the main feature of the character, which determines its negative connotation in the axiological scale of the Japanese. It is assumed that in those few fairytales, which have a lexeme “neighbor”, but the character is not the main one, he/she certainly becomes a construct of the plot.
