The purpose of the article is to highlight the peculiarities of forming students’ universal competencies by involving them in research work. Modern education is aimed at developing not only basic knowledge, but also the competencies necessary for successful life and work in a rapidly changing world. One of the important strategies for this is to involve students in research activities. It not only develops cognitive skills, but also contributes to the formation of key competencies such as critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity, and self-management. This article looks at how school-based science activities contribute to the development of these competencies.
