The article examines the phenomenon of intercultural dialogue as one ofthe receptive discourse factors at the example of Ukrainian literature receptionin the UK. Dialogism is defined as a part of the national culture identity. Theattention is paid to the following aspects of the phenomenon as «pre-dialogue»,«cross-cultural» dialogue form, cooperativity and conflict. The focus was onthe importance for the Ukrainian-English dialogue "West-East" civilizationaland cultural paradigm and Ukrainian borderlands belonging to it.Dialogism should be considered as an integral element of culture andliterature, as one of its components. The tendency of national cultures to accepteach other, their desire for contact, communication is one of the fundamentalprinciples of these cultures and, moreover, one of the key signs of identity ofeach. Intercultural dialogue presupposes a form of interrelation and interactionbetween different cultural systems and individual segments, elements of thesesystems, in which all, without exception, participants have a unique andoriginal settings. One of the more common forms of dialogue between different nationalcultures on its initial stage or, more precisely, in the framework of its «zero»preparatory cycle is a «pre-dialogue» as a set of monologues that are notdirectly correlated with each other, in addition, those that do not set themselvesthe challenge of achieving such correlation. Other varieties from among thosethat can be attributed to the number of the main, most common, it is actuallydialogue as a conscious exchange of «replicas» on a systematic basis, as well asa set of two or more monologues in which there are certain common elements, that establish the relationship of full or partial communication. Anothervariation of receptive dialogue is a receptive dialogue, which inherent inbilateral and multilateral relations of the different literatures, but not all ofthem. In the framework of intercultural dialogue different moments, aspects, motives are usually combined. The contact between different cultures is always and under allcircumstances a conflict between them. The dialogue of cultures by definition, cannot occur without problems, painlessly, and experience of the Ukrainianculture and literature in England and in English-speaking cultural area fullyconfirms this thesis. Any act of cultural creativity is a kind of a reaction, a the course of a dialogue of one culture with another (Arnold Toynbee).Dialogue is always a certain revaluation of values, the change in the valueparadigm of cultural contacts of this culture with others, the influence of thepast on it.Reception of foreign culture or literature in foreign cultural environmentis dependent on a condition, in which intercultural dialogue for a culture andliterature that are included in bilateral or multilateral basis. The path fromreception to interpretation in many cases runs through intercultural orinterliteral dialogue in one or other of their forms and shapes
