Abstract

В статті здійснено аналіз ґенези та інтерпретації категорії свободи в античній філософській традиції. Показано, що її виникнення пов’язане із соціально-політичними і духовно-релігійними особливостями давньогрецької цивілізації. На підставі перемоги в греко-персидських війнах та ствердження демократії виникає уявлення про свободу як вищу цінність та ідентифікуючу ознаку давніх греків. Разом із тим, в античній філософії виникає метафізична категорія свободи та її етичне втілення. Розкрито зміст цих основних аспектів античної свободи та їхню специфіку. З’ясовано, що саме антична ідея свободи стала основою її християнської інтерпретації та формування модерного її розуміння, яке лежить в основі сучасної філософії, права та етики.
