The urgency of the problem of adults in modern socio-economic conditions is substantiated in thearticle. The principles and priority directions of the development of both European and national adult education areanalyzed. Attention is focused on the socio-economic need for the functioning of the adult education system. It is notedthat a comprehensive evaluation, analysis of the thematic range of the educational needs of adult citizens, as well as the possibilities for their satisfaction, the assessment of the quality, territorial and financial accessibility of different typesof educational programs constitute the basis for the development of normative, scientific and methodological components of adult education.References
