Explosions in galaxies

Abstract

Phenomena connected with supernovae explosions in galaxies are discussed. Approximate methods for description of the supernova shock wave dynamics in the interstellar medium are briefly considered, in particular, the effects of radiative energy losses and a nonuniform (stratified) density distribution on the large-scale dynamics of shock waves are analyzed. Large-scale vertical structures and outflows observed in galaxies are discussed in this context.
