Equilibrium and stability of а thin torus in the gravitation field of a galaxy

Abstract

Self-gravitating thin ring in the gravitation field of a galaxy is investigated. It's shown that all toroidal structures are subjected to the secular instability, but the dynamical instability is possible under some conditions. Self-gravitating formation can “diffuse” forming some ring system or brake up to separate self-gravitating condensations.
